11 minors were rescued from an illegal Plateau motorbike park

The Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission has discovered illegal car parks operating in the state for almost ten years in the state.

This was stated by the Chairperson of the Commission, Mrs. Olivia Dazyam, at a press conference on Friday in Jos.

Dazyam said a whistleblower from the Zawan community in Jos alerted the commission via text message.

According to him, the complainant described how the park loaded passengers from Jos to Sepeteri, a mining community in Ibadan, only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

He said commission officials immediately took action and arrested 11 minors and three women who were preparing to travel by bus.

“Following an investigation, the Transport Commissioner confirmed that the park was illegal, and security agencies were immediately invited to begin an investigation into its operations.

Preliminary findings indicate that passengers, including children under 18 years of age, were recruited as laborers in mining camps in three Ibadan communities.

“The recruits do not pay transportation costs. Instead, the organizers only pay after taking them to the mining site, where they work for the first six days to cover their travel costs,” Dazyam said.
