Lagos mainland prioritizes residents’ healthcare needs…

The Lagos Mainland Local Government Council has said it has embarked on an extraordinary initiative to address some of the urgent health needs of the most vulnerable residents by providing free health missions.

Its executive chairman, Jubril Emilagba, said this is part of his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and promoting the well-being of residents.

He spoke as the council held its 10th edition of the Lagos Free Health Mission to the Mainland on Saturday.

The President said the council understood the challenges faced by low-income families, the elderly and persons with disabilities, who find it difficult to obtain necessary medical care, hence the initiative.

“Residents, especially the elderly and young people, take advantage of this free healthcare initiative and access quality medical services for free,” he said.

The president further explained that health education and promotion for residents included free eye screening, surgery and glasses, malaria screening.

“Others are screening for tuberculosis and HIV; medical counseling and treatment; the provision of essential medicines and family planning services.”

Emilagba said the initiative would ensure that every resident, regardless of their socio-economic status, receives effective medical care from medical personnel.

“In healthcare we have seen significant achievements with a strong emphasis on affordable healthcare.

“Our free medical outreach programs have provided hernia surgeries, cataract tests, eye care services and free distribution of glasses.

“We have also renovated and commissioned the Simpson Healthcare Center in collaboration with APM Terminals and improved the facilities at the Desalu Primary Health Centre, Progressive Estate.

“By offering this vital support, the local government aims to not only alleviate the financial burden associated with medical care, but also promote the overall health and well-being of the community,” he said.

Emilagba said his administration remains committed to reducing hunger pangs through the “Ounje Emi Palliative Food Programme”, conducted in more than eight phases in communities.

According to him, the program provides basic foodstuffs to both Christians and Muslims during the recently concluded Ramadan and Lent period.

“We believe that every act of support counts and we will continue to stand by our people,” he said.
