As the world turns its attention to the United States as the host country of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the United States Government Exchange Alumni Association Nigeria (USGEAAN), Enugu State Chapter, today organized a community football match for the under-13 teams.
The match, played between Nkanu East LGA and Oji River LGA at the Rangers Training Pitch, Liberty Estate, Enugu, was built around the hype of the global tournament.
The wife of the State Governor, Chief Mrs. Nkechinyere Mba, ably represented by the wife of the Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Mrs. chinyere Ugwu, was present to kick off. He wished America happy celebration of independence and freedom 250 and commended the giant strides of the US Mission in Nigeria, USGEAAN Enugu State efforts in utilizing sports for community development.
Earlier in the day, USGEAAN Enugu Coordinator, Ebere Amaraizu, facilitated social-emotional learning sessions for the young players. The session focused on taking responsibility and overcoming anxiety, equipping young minds with tools to challenge beliefs that drive fear and quick fixes.
The community-focused activity aligns with the Freedom 250 celebration and aims to develop these younger minds’ skills, confidence and connection to the global game hosted by America
