I joined the ‘Big Team’ Bursaspor: Iheanacho breaks silence on shocking move to Turkish second division

nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho has defended his move to the Turkish second division Bursaspor after rejecting an offer presented by the Scottish champions Celtic to keep him at the club for at least one more season.

Kelechi Iheanacho, who won a league double with Celtic last season, has abandoned contract talks with the Scottish giants and completed a shock move to the Turkish second division.

The 29-year-old forward described Bursaspor as a “great team” and was convinced of their ambitious project.

‘I am very happy to come to Bursaspor. I thank the president, Mr. Furkan, and his team for making it possible to come to Bursaspor also with the help of my agent. I am very happy and looking forward to starting here in Bursaspor.

The great project

Bursaspor will play in the second division of Turkish football in the new season after their victory in Super Lig 3 last season.

However, the former Manchester City and Leicester City star, who has since joined the team in pre-season, insists he is ready to help his new team return to their glory days.

“To be fair, Bursaspor are a big team in Türkiye. I heard they have won the Turkish Super League before.

‘And when I found out about the project and that they wanted to reach the Super Lig and also play in Europe, I knew it was a great project; “It’s very good for me to be involved and help the team.”

“So I asked my agent to do everything possible for me to come to Bursaspor. It’s a great project and I hope to be part of it and be able to help the team.”

Bursaspor will begin their league campaign with an away game in Bodrum on August 9, and Iheanacho will be hoping to get his first action for the team.

Last season, the striker scored 9 goals in 24 appearances for Celtic in all competitions and has revealed that his aim this season will be promotion to the Super Lig.

“My goal is to get promoted to the Super League.”
