The Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has pledged to preserve and document the works of veteran Hausa actor, Mohammed Sani, popularly known as Tumbuleke, after his death.
Musawa made the pledge on Thursday when he visited the actor’s family at his residence in Adamawa Road, Kaduna, to condolence with them on his death.
Tumbuleke, who died on 11 August 2026, aged 86 after an illness, was a prominent figure in Hausa television comedy and entertainment, particularly through Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) productions in the 1980s.
Speaking to journalists after the visit, Musawa described his death as a great loss to the Nigerian creative industry, acknowledging his decades-long contribution to the development of Hausa-language entertainment.
He said the federal government will explore ways to document his works and preserve his artistic contributions for future generations.
“We are here to share the family’s grief and our condolences, as well as to see how we can preserve his legacy and document it for the future,” the minister said.
Musawa explained that the visit was for the main purpose of identifying with the grieving family and sharing their grief, while also exploring ways to preserve the actor’s artistic legacy.
She said that although she intended to have an in-depth discussion with the family about documenting Tumbuleke’s works, time constraints prevented her from finishing the conversation.
“I had to sit down with the family to discuss how to document his legacy. Unfortunately, I was unable to do so today. However, I will meet with the family to ensure his lasting legacy is preserved,” he said.
The minister prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his wife, children and other family members the strength and courage to bear the loss.
Tumbuleke’s career spanned several decades and his performances contributed to the growth of Hausa comedy and indigenous television entertainment.
