Borno: Zulum promises quick reforms at Mohammed Goni College

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Wednesday promised to reform and upgrade the facilities of the Mohammed Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies and its Higher Islamic College in Maiduguri in order to expand access to education for more residents in the state.

Zulum made the pledge while receiving the report of a 10-man visiting committee set up to review the activities of the college, at Government House, Maiduguri.

The governor praised the visitation committee for its thoroughness, noting that the committee carried out its duties “without fear or favor.”

He assured that the recommendations contained in the report will be implemented soon.

“I want to commend the president, the committee members, the dean, the leadership team and the staff of the institution, and I want to assure you that the report of this committee will be implemented very soon,” Zulum said.

Governor Zulum said he has visited the college twice in recent months to personally assess conditions on the ground. He said he was moved by the resilience of the students, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

He observed that despite limited financial resources, faculty taught to the best of their abilities while students struggled to keep up with academic pursuits.
