New Brighton winger battles for fitness for Super Eagles AFCON qualifiers

Femi Azeez, who recently joined English Premier League side Brighton from Championship side Millwall, is in a race to be fit for the AFCON qualifiers later this month, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Azeez, who is on the list of players called up by Nigeria senior national team coach Eric Chelle for the matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau respectively, is suffering from a muscle injury.

“Obviously Femi is suffering from a slight injury at the moment,” Hurzeler said before the draw against Leeds United. “With Femi we have to wait this weekend and hopefully he will be available for the next game. [Coventry].”

He went on to praise the qualities of the 25-year-old who made his international debut for Nigeria in the summer during the Unity Cup, where he scored two goals and provided an assist to help Nigeria retain the title.

Hurzeler added: “Femi is a winger, he can score with his right and left foot. He has very good decision-making in the final third. He works very hard. I am very happy with the transfer window.”
