Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari says the WAFU B U-17 Women’s Cup will provide valuable preparation for his team ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria will begin their campaign against Niger Republic at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast on Wednesday (today).
Busari focused on preparation for the World Cup
Busari believes the regional tournament will give his players the opportunity to test themselves against quality opponents, gain valuable experience and understand the demands of competing at a higher level.
“This is a preparatory stage for us. We are preparing for the World Cup, so we want to reach the top and also familiarize ourselves with the nature, pressure and important points that come with this type of competition,” Busari told the media.

Niger Republic Test
The Flamingos coach admitted his coaching staff has limited information on their early opponents, but expressed confidence his players will adapt once play begins.
“We are playing against a team about which we have little information and we believe that when we get to the field, the situations will surely bring a solution,” Busari said.
“Strategy will be in play when we meet on the pitch. African women’s football has grown a lot and everyone is improving.”
The WAFU B U17 Women’s Cup will therefore be an important test for the Flemings as they continue their preparations for the world tournament.
