Rangers women to compete in NWFL Premiership: Ezeaku

Rangers International FC is expanding its rich football heritage and the club’s CEO, Amobi Ezeaku, has officially announced that the newly formed women’s team will participate in the upcoming Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season.

This historic development brings the famous “Flying Antelopes” brand to elite women’s club football, offering a huge boost to the growth and visibility of national women’s football.

Ezeaku made the revelation during a press conference in Enugu on Wednesday, adding that the club will soon begin holding open screenings for players looking to secure a spot in the inaugural squad.

He also confirmed that coach Favor Anieke will continue to lead the women’s team.

“The women’s team would enjoy the same level of attention, support and recognition as the Rangers men’s team,” Ezeaku said.

Addressing the team’s venue options, the CEO noted that while the Awka City Stadium in Anambra State remains a viable option, the management’s main preference is for women to share match venues with men wherever possible.

Additionally, Rangers are setting out comprehensive plans to fully integrate the women’s team into the club’s core operational structure once the ongoing renovations to the historic Nnamdi Azikiwe (The Cathedral) Stadium are complete.

This bold step aligns with modern football standards of holistic club operations, successfully bridging the gap between men’s and women’s professional football under one legendary banner.
