The CRS Police Command and the Laurahope Foundation strengthen collaboration against cultism

Calabar (Core Reporters) – The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has been handed over the management of the Laurahope Care and Rescue Foundation as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration against cultism and other social vices in the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Cross River Police Command, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, Thursday, September 17, 2026.

According to the statement, the foundation’s delegation, led by its director, Hope James, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner, during which both parties reviewed existing interventions and explored strategies to expand community programs aimed at youth involvement in cultism.

The commitment follows a recent intervention in Abini community, Biase Local Government Area, where around 40 youths associated with sectarian groups publicly renounced worship and pledged to embrace peaceful and law-abiding lifestyles.

The intervention was carried out by the Police Command in collaboration with the Abini Elites Association and the Laurahope Foundation.

During the meeting, the Commissioner and the foundation reviewed the results of the Biase initiative and discussed plans to replicate similar interventions in other communities across the state.

James called for stronger collaboration between the Laurahope Foundation and the Police Command to support the gains recorded in Biase, particularly through rehabilitation and reintegration programs for young people who give up the cult.

CP Ordue stressed that while the Police will continue to employ intelligence-based activities and enforce the law against criminal elements, sustainable security also requires preventative measures that address factors that expose young people to recruitment into sectarian groups.

He praised the Laurahope Foundation, community leaders and other stakeholders for their role in the Biase intervention, stressing that the fight against cultism requires the collective efforts of families, traditional institutions, religious organisations, schools, civil society groups and the wider community.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from the Police Command and the Laurahope Foundation to deepen their partnership through community-supported interventions aimed at preventing cultism, supporting the reintegration of repentant youths and strengthening peace and security in Cross River State.
