Atiku demanded justice for the miners who died in NSCDC custody

African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has demanded justice for the miners who died while in the custody of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State.

Atiku said those who died were human beings who should live and have their dignity protected while in government custody.

He stated this in a statement shared on X while reacting to the incident and the Federal Government’s decision to suspend officers linked to the incident and order an investigation.

“They are human beings—sons, fathers, brothers and loved ones, whose families have the right to expect that, whatever charges they face, the state will protect their lives and dignity while they remain in custody,” Atiku said.

He called for an independent, thorough and transparent investigation, and insisted that its findings be made public.

Atiku also said anyone found responsible through action, abuse or negligence must be held accountable.

“No Nigerian should go into government custody and be deprived of the most basic right: the right to life,” he said.

“The families of the victims deserve more than just condolences. They deserve the truth. They deserve justice,” he added.
