Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke Joint Task Force have rescued six people who were reportedly kidnapped in parts of Benue and Taraba states.
The victims were found around Gbise community in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, according to OPWS Acting Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu.
Zubairu disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday and presented to journalists in Makurdi.
He said five victims were abducted along the Chenchengi-Takum road, while another victim was taken from his residence in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Based on this information, the troops received information on September 25 2026 about the whereabouts of six kidnapping victims who had been freed and immediately moved to the location.
“Following up on this information quickly, the authorities immediately moved to the location and succeeded in evacuating the victim to a safe place for safety and necessary further action.
“During initial investigations into the victims, five of them reportedly revealed that they had been abducted along the Chenchengi-Takum road.

“The sixth victim, Mr Munza Yusuf, stated that he was kidnapped from his residence in Ahmadu General area of Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State,” the statement read in part.
The rescued victims were identified as Gabriel Enujuba, 50; Samson Magbo, 43; Mallam Alkasim Modu, 27; Manzo Bello, 27; Mallam Sani Abdullahi, 25; and Munza Yusuf, 25.
Zubairu said the rescue operation was part of ongoing efforts by OPWS troops to trace the criminal network responsible for kidnapping activities in the area.
He said his forces were maintaining aggressive, intelligence-based operations, while strengthening patrols and intelligence gathering in vulnerable communities and key routes.
According to him, the aim is to limit the movement of criminal elements and prevent them from establishing an operational foothold in the region.
Media officials said troops have also been directed to remain proactive and vigilant in responding to emerging security threats.
He said the task force would continue to strengthen its human intelligence network to identify, track and arrest those responsible for criminal activities.
OPWS operates in Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba states.
