APC wins 2026 Enugu LG elections

All 17 presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Saturday’s local government elections in Enugu have been declared winners.

APC candidates defeated their opponents by such a wide margin that in some local governments, opposition party candidates failed to secure even a single vote.

For example, the incoming and incumbent President, Barrister Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze of Igbo-Eze South, garnered as many votes cast as his Igbo-Eze North counterpart, Dr. Onyebuchi, who secured all 137,751 votes cast.

Declaring the results on Sunday, the Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), Prof. Chris Chidubem Ngwu, said the elections were free and fair and were held according to the rules guiding the commission.

Soon after announcing the election results and winners, they were immediately issued certificates of return.

Although the results of the councilor elections have not been public, following the outcome of the previous council polls, APC candidates are also likely to win their wards.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Enugu South Chairman, Caleb Ani, said Governor Peter Mbah’s good works in the state enabled APC candidates to win and urged the electorate to vote the governor to continue with his good works.

“Governor Peter Mbah has performed very well in every aspect. His good works and what we have done in our respective council helped the APC candidates win in a landslide. I urge our people to vote for Governor Mbah in 2027 to continue with the good works he started,” he urged.
