Imo assembly candidate calls for urgent rescue of kidnapped corps members

The Imo State House of Assembly candidate for Ideato Southern State constituency on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon Ezejimmadu Uchenna Daniel, has called for the urgent rescue of prospective corps members who have been kidnapped in Imo State.

According to him, “The abduction of these young Nigerians who were simply on their way to begin their National Youth Service is a painful reminder of the insecurity plaguing our nation.”

“My heart goes out to the families of potential abducted corps members. I cannot imagine the anxiety and anguish their parents and loved ones are feeling at this time.

He used the occasion to call on the Federal Government, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, DSS, NYSC and all relevant security agencies to consider the safe rescue of Nigerian youths as an urgent national priority.

According to him, “Reports indicate that security agents tracked down the alleged kidnappers and located their hideout, although the reported presence of IEDs made the operation more sensitive.

“I appeal to security agencies to deploy all intelligence, surveillance, tactical and technical capabilities necessary to bring our youth home safely. The presence of explosives makes careful planning essential; the aim must be to rescue the victims alive and unharmed, avoiding any action that could put their lives at risk.

“I further call on the Federal Government to establish a clear and regular channel of communication with the families, providing them with credible updates on rescue efforts and providing the necessary social and psychological support. These are young Nigerians who were on their way to serve their country. They must not be abandoned. Let every available resource be mobilized until the last abducted body member is safely reunited with his family.”
