Manchester United fans made their voices heard following the heavy 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, chanting frustration at the club’s owners, manager Jason Wilcox and the team, while continuing to back Michael Carrick.
The 45-year-old looked visibly emotional after the final whistle as he completed a lap around the pitch to thank the crowd, placing his hand over his heart in thanks.

“It wasn’t a farewell from me,” Carrick insisted when asked about the gesture.
“I probably didn’t expect that from the fans, if I’m honest, but I’ve always felt the support and that connection with them. It’s going to take a little while to sink in, but I certainly appreciate their support.”
Carrick acknowledged the difficulty of the situation and revealed that the defeat has taken a heavy psychological toll on his players behind closed doors.

“It is difficult for me to have a day like this at this club and feel the emotion,” he added. “I feel sorry for my players, they are going through a bad patch.
“There’s a lot of emotion in the locker room at the moment, there’s a lot of guys pretty hurt, to be fair. It’s not that they don’t care or want to be in this position. Those I’ve spoken to are really getting to it.”
