The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State, Arinzechukwu Awogu, has said the existential challenges of Okpoko residents are yet to be addressed.
Awogu, who made the observation during his campaign in Okpoko Ward 3 at the weekend, said the area was still a slum.
He said challenges affecting the environment, road infrastructure, education facilities and healthcare need deliberate and concerted attention.
Awogu, a former Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA), said urgent intervention was needed from both the state and federal governments to address ecological, road, educational and living conditions in Okpoko.
“Okpoko as a community has great potential but lacks the attention needed to fully develop its potential and make progress in the areas of human capabilities and utilization of its population.
“Okpoko is a hub of activity and remains a force especially with its teeming population and commercial activities.
“The economy of Ogbaru Federal Constituency and Anambra in general will improve once the needs of Okpoko are fully met,” he said.
Awogu said the total number of kilometers of roads constructed in Okpoko so far was less than 15km against the required 150km and that over 700 culverts needed to be constructed to enable connectivity and linking of roads within the area.
He recalled that in 2016, he personally went on foot with tape to measure all the roads in Okpoko with a team of engineers from the Anambra Ministry of Works.
He said he was familiar with Okpoko and would be the best man to settle and transform the area if they took him on by voting him into the National Assembly.
Some residents who spoke attested to Awogu’s numerous interventions in Okpoko and the way he welcomed Okpoko people into his council without discrimination.
They all decided that Awogu was their preferred candidate for the Federal House and promised to vote for him en masse.
