How Chelsea contacted me before signing Mikel Obi – Singer Mr Eazi

Nigerian singer Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has claimed that English Premier League club Chelsea approached him about a potential signing before the club recruited former Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel.

The singer made the revelation during an interview with Beat FM on Wednesday, explaining that he had chosen to pursue a music career while Mikel would continue to play for the London club.

According to Eazi both men were linked with a possible move to Chelsea, but he decided to focus on music instead.

“They would sign me. So it was like me and Mikel Obi,” he said.

He explained that he believed Mikel was better suited to football, while he had the potential to succeed in music.

“I just thought Mikel Obi wasn’t, he wasn’t talented as a musician. But I can do it. So I let Mikel go to Chelsea,” he said.

Mr. Eazi talks about allowing others to shine

The singer also compared his decision to his approach to the music industry, suggesting that he sometimes steps aside to allow others to enjoy the spotlight while he pursues his own ambitions.

“So with this, even with the music, I had to, like, step back, make a couple billion and then let other people shine,” he added.

He referenced fellow Nigerian singer Seyi Vibez, who he jokingly described as a great Nigerian philosopher because of his message about allowing others to succeed.

Citing the phrase “Let your brother shine,” Mr. Eazi said he felt comfortable allowing others to take center stage as they pursued their own goals.

Mikel’s successful spell at Chelsea

Mikel joined Chelsea in 2006 and spent more than a decade at the club, establishing himself as an important midfielder.

During his time with the Premier League team, he won several major honours, including two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

Mr Eazi, meanwhile, has built a career in the Nigerian and international music industry, becoming known for his distinctive sound and contributions to Afrobeat.

His account of Chelsea’s alleged approach offers a glimpse into the alternative career path he believes he could have pursued before focusing on music.
