Canada echoes US ‘mass casualty event’ warning to Moscow – National

The US Embassy in Moscow has issued a warning regarding the threat of a “mass casualty event” at the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve in Moscow.

In a statement posted on its website, the embassy said the threat was “credible” and advised everyone to avoid the area and avoid crowds.

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) reiterated that warning on Saturday, warning against all travel to Russia due to the conflict with Ukraine and the “risk of terrorism.”

“If you are in Russia, you should consider leaving the country by commercial means. If you remain in Russia, keep a low profile. Canadians who have Russian citizenship may be called up for military service,” GAC said.

The armed conflict with Ukraine has resulted in military activity within Russia’s borders. GAC said attacks occurred most frequently near the Russian-Ukrainian border, especially in the Bryansk, Kursk and Belgorod regions, and in the Black Sea region including Rostov Oblast and Krasnodar Krai.

Government buildings, schools, cultural venues, places of worship, airports and tourist attractions have also been targets of terrorist activity, they said.

Refugees from Russian-occupied Oleshky crossed into Ukrainian-held territory on Saturday as part of a major rescue operation carried out under a ceasefire in the southern region of Kherson that began on Tuesday morning.
