Awoniyi not 100 percent fit — Steve Cooper – Latest Sports News In Nigeria
Cooper revealed the Nigerian is not 100 percent fit, despite playing some minutes against Arsenal last week.
Awoniyi sustained a knee injury just before the start of the season, but did come off the bench to score for Nottingham Forest in their match against Arsenal.
In a chat with the press, Coach Cooper stated that Awoniyi and teammate, Moussa Niakhite aren’t ready for games currently, but they’re working towards getting back to full fitness.
“Both have had minutes in different ways and forms,” Cooper confirmed. “Last week Taiwo came on at Arsenal, which was a slight risk because he hadn’t done much training but obviously, when the game is going on, and you’ve got an opportunity to do something like that, you take it.”
“They’re in a much better place, both unlucky to pick up injuries as they did in unfortunate ways, but we’re past that now and we’re looking at how to get them back to full fitness and sooner rather than later.
“They’ll be available to start games, but now, not quite yet,” Cooper told the press.
Nottingham Forest lost their first game of the season 2-1 to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.
