WFD: Asalga boss inaugurates agriculture advisory committee 

 

The chairman of Asari Toru local government area of Rivers state, Hon. Onengiyeofori George, has inaugurated the Asalga Agriculture Development Advisory Committee with a commitment to facilitate the radical development of the agric sector in the area. 

Hon. George took the initiative as the LGA joined the rest of the world in celebrating this year’s World Food Day with the theme, “Water Is Life, Water Is Food, Leave No One Behind.” 

The five-man committee has Alabo Kinye Kingston as chairman while Pastor P. D. Ojuka was named  the vice chairman of the team.

The others are Rev. Emmanuel Asawo, as secretary; Pastor Orinaemi Obiali, and Elder Boma Dappa as members. 

Hon George said his vision to inaugurate the committee was in tune with the vision of Governor Siminialayi Fubara, aimed at revamping the agricultural sector of the state, stressed his resolve to bring development and revitalisation to the aqua-based life of Asalga farmers. 

 He promised to also boost the non-aquatic agricultural activities in the LGA, saying this would be achieved through increased budgetary allocation to the sector and ensuring that the farmers get enough support for increased productivity. 

The Supervisor for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Afiyesima Daye Dappa, highlighted the importance of this year’s theme, noting that it spotlights the plight of people who rely on aquatic system, who face pollution, ecosystem degradation, and climate change.

He also said the main goal of the World Food Day is to free humanity from hunger and malnutrition.
