Aloy Ejimakor, Special Advisor to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), accused criminal elements of actively trying to prevent Kanu’s release from detention.
According to Ejimakor, these elements are fueling insecurity in the Southeast region, committing violent crimes and linking it to IPOB, in an attempt to blackmail the organization and its leaders.
In a statement, on Friday, Ejimakor revealed that the spike in insecurity in the South East was not a coincidence, but rather a well-planned attempt by criminal elements and their sponsors to influence the Presidency and the Judiciary not to release Kanu.
He stressed that these elements exploited insecurity to manipulate public opinion and create the impression that IPOB and Kanu were responsible for the violence.
“The now predictable spike in insecurity in the South East every time MAZI NNAMDI KANU’s trial date approaches appears to be a well-planned attempt by various criminal elements and their sponsors to influence the Presidency and the Courts not to absolve MNK of what has happened, based on the Court’s decision Agung, changed to extra-constitutional detention,” said Ejimakor.

He continued, “This false flag is a disguised maneuver to give IPOB and MNK a bad impression; this is an age-old mind manipulation game called ‘guilt by association’, all aimed at making justice difficult for MNK.”
Ejimakor challenged the Federal Government to take Kanu at his word, stressing that the IPOB leader had previously stated that his release would end insecurity in the South East within two minutes. He attributed the ongoing violence in the region to those blocking Kanu’s release, accusing them of being traders of insecurity.
“By refusing to obey MNK’s words, the lives lost between the last hearing and the vote count must be blamed on those who prevented MNK’s release. In reality, it is these people who are the traffickers of insecurity in the Southeast, not MNK or IPOB. And the question that needs to be asked is: Why should the activities of criminals, murderers and kidnappers be attributed to IPOB without any investigation, without any credible evidence?” Ejimakor asked.
Ejimakor’s allegations have raised concerns about the role of criminal elements in perpetuating insecurity in the Southeast and possible links to the authorities.
The statement also raised questions about the government’s commitment to releasing Kanu, despite the Supreme Court ruling. As legal disputes continue, communities in the Southeast remain trapped amidst violence and uncertainty, with no end in sight.
