Obasanjo mourns Ogunleye, traditional ruler of Ogun

A former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has described the death of Oba Olufemi Ogunleye Towulade I, as a great loss to Owu Kingdom and Ogun, in general.

Ogunleye, the traditional ruler of Akinale town in Owu Kingdom of Ogun, died on Wednesday 19 June in the United Kingdom after a short illness at the age of 79.

Obasanjo, in a statement on Thursday by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, said the Oba’s death was shocking, having informed him of his trip a few weeks ago in good spirits.

Meanwhile, the Owu Traditional Council formally announced the end of the Oba on Thursday.
Obasanjo, who is in South Africa for the inauguration ceremony of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s second term, said Nigeria, as a whole, will miss Ogunleye for his resourcefulness and promotion of his homestead’s cultural heritage. (NAN)
