Armenia recognizes the state of Palestine

Armenia has joined the list of countries that recognize an independent Palestinian state.

The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this in a statement in Yerevan on Friday.

The ministry said Armenia has always considered a two-state solution as the best way out of the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

The statement read: β€œThe dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and the ongoing military conflict are among the key issues on the international political agenda that require resolution.

β€œWe believe that this is the only way to ensure that Palestinians and Israelis can fulfill their legitimate aspirations.”

The ministry revealed that Israel had summoned the Armenian ambassador to convey a reprimand.

In recent weeks, Norway, Spain, Ireland and Slovenia have recognized the Palestinian state to apply pressure to resolve the decades-old conflict.

However, there is currently no practical path towards a two-state solution.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vehemently rejects a two-state solution.
