The Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court in Isabo, Ogun State, on Friday, sentenced one Kazeem Salami to one year in prison for stealing food worth N1,000.
Prosecutor, Insp. Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the accused committed the offense on March 5, on Duroja Road in Ake village via Laderin in Abeokuta.
He added that the convict was noticed by community members who were roaming around the community.
“When the convict was accosted and questioned by security officers in the community, he could not provide a satisfactory explanation about where he had gone in the community.

“He also did not explain where he got the yam flour, palm oil and other foodstuffs, all worth N1000,” said Olu-Balogun.
The offence, according to the prosecutor, is contrary to Article 390 paragraph 9 of the 2006 Ogun Criminal Code.
Salami, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In his ruling, Judge VB Williams said the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt and sentenced the defendant to one year in prison.
