Fubara removed Wike’s ally from the post of chairman of the Rivers traditional ruling council

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday removed the traditional ruler of Emohua kingdom, Chidi Awuse, from the post of chairman of the state’s council of traditional rulers.

Since then, he appointed the traditional ruler of the Apara kingdom, Chike Worlu Wodo, as the new chairman of the council.

Fubara, who broke the news during a meeting with councilors at Government House in Port Harcourt, said the Awuse-led council showed no signs of cooperating with his government.

Awuse is a close ally of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Wike and Fubara have been at loggerheads since October last year with some key stakeholders in Rivers State lining up behind the friends-turned-enemies.

The governor said: “At this juncture, I must say that by the power vested in me, I announce that the tenure of Chief Sergeant Awuse as chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers has been terminated.

“Let me announce here that the new chief from now on will be Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, Eze Ohna Apara, the supreme ruler of the Apara kingdom.

“I want the council to carry out its responsibilities. From my observations, the board is almost dead.

“So, I can feel that the council has been very inactive. Inactive because perhaps the chairman has decided not to take responsibility as chairman. I think that is the best way to describe it.”
