Operation Safe Haven troops have successfully raided forests in Plateau State, captured bandits and arms couriers, and recovered several weapons. The operation, which lasted for one week, also resulted in the arrest of the shooters in Kaduna State.

According to Samson Zhakom, Operation Safe Haven Spokesperson in a statement on Monday, β€œ3rd Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) troops have arrested known gun runners, bandits, arms couriers and recovered weapons and ammunition in several intelligence-driven countries. operations carried out in Plateau and Kaduna States in the past week.”

Troops recovered 3 AK-47 rifles, 5 AK-47 magazines and 75 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition from Pandam forest in Qua’anpan Local Government Area of ​​Plateau State. Two shooters were also arrested in Kaduna State, one along Abuja Riyom road and another in Manchok, while trying to supply arms to the bandits.

Zhakom explained that the shooters had been tracked down and arrested, resulting in the recovery of 35 AK-47 magazines, 60 7.62 mm (Special) bullets, 3 Bajaj motorbikes, 3 cell phones and items suspected to be regional talismans.

The spokesperson praised the community for providing credible information making the operation successful and urged continued cooperation to ensure a crime-free environment.

The full statement read: β€œOn June 21, 2024, troops conducted an operation to evict armed militia and other criminals suspected of being a bandit hideout in Pandam forest in Qua’anpan Local Government Area of ​​Plateau State. During the operation, troops found 3 AK-47 rifles, 5 AK-47 magazines and 75 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition.

β€œIn a joint operation with similar security agencies on June 21, 2024, troops tracked down and arrested a notorious gunman along Riyom-Abuja Road in Riyom Local Government Area of ​​Plateau State. The suspect was arrested while on his way to supply 35 AK-47 magazines to another shooter who, unbeknownst to the first shooter, had previously been tracked and arrested in Kano State on June 20, 2024.

β€œFurther information obtained from the arrested suspects led to the immediate arrest of the main arms supplier in Manchok in Kaura Local Government Area of ​​Kaduna while attempting to receive 35 AK-47 magazines from the first shooter for onward delivery to bandits in Zamfara State. .

β€œTroops continued search operations at the main shooter’s house and found 35 AK-47 magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) bullets, 3 Bajaj motorbikes, 3 mobile phones and items suspected to be local charms.
