The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and university vice-chancellors, polytechnic chancellors and College of Education chancellors will meet on July 18, 2024, to determine cut-off marks for admissions to higher education institutions.
The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, aims to set minimum admission standards.
According to a notification obtained in Abuja, the JAMB Registrar will present a report on the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry applications, analyzing key performance indicators that could shape the direction of government policy on admissions.
The meeting will also assess stakeholders on important issues from the previous admission exercise and determine the minimum acceptable score for the current year based on UTME performance.

The meeting is also expected to set admission requirements and initiate the admission process for the current year, based on previous agreements among stakeholders regarding minimum admission requirements for universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
The notice read: “During the exercise, the registrar will present reports on the recently completed Integrated Tertiary Matriculation Examination and ongoing Direct Entry registration while also analyzing key performance indicators that may shape the direction of government policy in the area of admissions.
“Also, this meeting will assess stakeholders regarding important issues that emerged in the implementation of revenue in previous years.
“In addition, the policy meeting will also look at the performance of candidates in this year’s UTME to determine the minimum acceptable score for the year.”
