The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) begins the search for a new coach for the Nigeria senior team following the departure of Finidi George, with a lot expected to happen later this week.
A statement from the NFF said they will be looking for an expatriate coach to lead the team in the next round of international games in September, and coaches have so far applied for the position.
Finidi resigned from his position as coach after a disappointing performance in the World Cup qualifiers, where they drew 1-1 against South Africa before losing 1-2 to Benin Republic.
speaking to OwnGoalNigeria.com The Domenec Torrent agent who applied for the job before it was handed over to Finidi said they were shocked when the NFF did a 180-degree turn in their decision to hand the job over to their client.
โIt was a fun change. I received a call from one of the NFF men that my client should prepare for the role, and I even asked him to study the Super Eagles matches during the friendly matches in Morocco,โ he said. OwnGoalNigeria.com.
After the matches against Ghana and Mali respectively. My calls went unanswered. I tried to find out what was happening but to no avail and a few weeks later they announced someone else (Finidi) as coach. That is why my client will not reapply for the position now that it is vacant,โ he stated.
Torrent holds the record for being Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s longest-serving assistant and has also worked as head coach of Turkish Galatasaray, MLS side York City and Brazilian side Flamengo.
