Peseiro turns his back on the vacant Super Eagles position

Former Nigeria senior national team coach Jose Peseiro is not interested in returning as coach of the team following the departure of Finidi George. OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Peseiro led the team to the final of the African Cup of Nations, where they were defeated 1-2 by the host Ivory Coast. It was his best run since he won the trophy in 2013, but he left after his contract expired in February.

His assistant Finidi George was named the team’s head coach after two games as interim coach. He stepped down from his position a few weeks ago following the announcement by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) that he would hire an expatriate coach for the team.

The NFF made the decision after the team’s poor performance in the World Cup qualifiers, where they drew 1-1 with South Africa before losing 1-2 to Benin Republic in Ivory Coast. This means they are now fifth in their group.

Some rumors say that there are movements to bring back the Portuguese coach, but we have exclusively learned that he has made it clear that he is not interested in returning to his position due to several factors.

One of the factors includes the poor relationship he endured with some of the NFF’s top men who tried to foist players on him. He also felt that at times the president of the football body, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, disrespected him.

The coach would have continued in his position after achieving the goal of reaching the AFCON semifinals, but the aforementioned reasons are what most led him to reject the extension, and not the fact that they were going to pay him the same salary. who won in the AFCON.
