Ronaldo, Portugal knocked out after losing on penalties to France in Euro quarter-finals

Cristiano Ronaldo was knocked out of the European Championship as Portugal were beaten on penalties by France in their quarter-final on Friday night.

After 120 goalless minutes, the two sides had to settle their differences in a penalty shootout, with France emerging victorious.

Ronaldo converted his own shot but Joao Felix failed to convert a third for his side as the faces of the Portuguese fans turned grim.

Theo Hernandez scored the winning penalty and France won 5-3 in the shootout.

Before the match, all eyes were on the battle between Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo but both failed to make an impact.

France will now face Spain in the semi-finals in Munich next Tuesday.
