Suspected herdsmen reportedly kill 10 in Benue community

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen reportedly killed 10 people in Olegomachi community, Agatu local government area, Benue State on Tuesday.

The attackers also burned buildings and looted property in the community.

Agatu LGA interim chairman Phillip Ebenyakwu confirmed the attack to journalists on Wednesday.

He said: “Yesterday (Tuesday) night, gunmen attacked the Olegomachi community with sophisticated weapons. 10 people were killed in the attack.

“The attackers also looted property and burned seven houses.

“In addition, they also took livestock, including goats and chickens.”

However, state police spokesperson Catherine Anene said the incident had not been reported to police.
