Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, on Sunday, stated that no individual from the Southeast would participate in the protest against President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government.
The governor stated this at the closing ceremony of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the local government elections in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
He described the protest promoters as enemies of the state who wanted to destabilize the national government.
Uzodinma said: “To the youths of the South-East, as we are on the path of growth, our enemies are trying to destabilize the national government.
“They will come to you, they want you to protest, ask those you want to protest where their children are. Why should you be the one to protest and protest what?
“This government is our government, President Bola Tinubu’s government is our government. So no one from the Southeast will protest. We do not feel disadvantaged, we have hope.”

“Whatever they say, this administration has only been in office for one year. Yes, we know the difficulties, we know the circumstances are difficult, but I assure you the president is working hard to get money to the people, to provide infrastructure to the people, and to get and improve food security for the people. Follow your leader, work with your leader.”
Analysis:
Uzodinma’s claim can be seen as an attempt to show the region’s support for the current government.
However, it also raises questions about the potential suppression of dissenting voices and marginalization of opposing views.
The Southeast has historically been a hotbed of political activism, and this statement could be seen as an attempt to dampen that spirit.
Political Implications:
The governor’s statement could have far-reaching implications for the political landscape. It could be seen as a move to consolidate power and silence the opposition, potentially leading to a crackdown on dissent. This could further exacerbate existing political tensions in the region.
Uzodinma’s remarks are likely to ignite a political storm, highlighting the complex dynamics at play in the region.
While it remains to be seen how this will develop, one thing is clear – the region’s political landscape has become increasingly interesting. As the situation develops, it will be important to keep a close eye on the implications of this bold claim.
