Education Minister Professor Tahir Mamman announced on Thursday a ban on the admission of candidates under the age of 18 to higher education institutions in the country.

Mamman announced this at the 2024 policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

“JAMB is hereby informed that there is now a ban on underage students, those below the age of 18, from entering our tertiary institutions from this year 2024,” Mamman said.

The minister said the federal government was considering adopting 18 years as the entry age for universities and other higher education institutions.
