FCT Police Chief urges residents not to join demonstrations across Indonesia

FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, has urged residents and indigenes not to participate in the upcoming nationwide protests scheduled for August 1, citing potential security risks.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday, Igweh stressed the efforts made by the police to maintain security in the FCT, and expressed fears that the protests could undermine those efforts.

“I want to appeal specifically to the citizens and indigenes and everyone in the FCT. Please, the lion does not destroy its den. You cannot see a lion destroying its den. No, I don’t want you to join this protest,” Igweh said, urging the public to appreciate the sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel to ensure their safety.

Noting the loss of a number of police officers in securing the area, Igweh appealed to residents not to risk further unrest. He also acknowledged the government’s efforts in building infrastructure, and urged residents to act responsibly and maintain peace.

“Let us together safeguard the security of the FCT. Let them do what they want. But not with us,” he concluded.
