AS Monaco have signed 17-year-old Nigerian striker George Ilenikhena from Belgian Pro League side Royal Antwerp. Ilenikhena, who joined Antwerp from Amiens SC last summer, is known for his outstanding performances and potential.
Ilenikhena was born in Lagos, Nigeria, but moved to France at a young age and grew up in Antony, Hauts-de-Seine. He progressed through the youth ranks of Antony Football Evolution and then Amiens before his move to Royal Antwerp. His rapid development and consistent performances have earned him a move to one of Ligue 1’s top clubs.
During his time in Antwerp, Ilenikhena made significant strides, becoming the youngest Nigerian player to score in the UEFA Champions League at just 17 years and 119 days.
This record-breaking goal came in a dramatic 3-2 win over Barcelona, where he scored the decisive goal, surpassing the previous record held by Obafemi Martins.
Ilenikhena’s move to Monaco marks an important step in his career as he looks to further develop his skills and make an impact in Ligue 1.
His performance in Antwerp, where he scored eight goals in 28 games, demonstrates his potential and his ambition to succeed at the highest levels of European football.
