The Senate has vowed to expose and bring to justice individuals and entities responsible for economic sabotage in the oil sector, including those behind the importation of toxic fuel into Nigeria.
The Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Economic Sabotage in the Nigerian Petroleum Industry made this statement at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.
Committee Chair, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, stressed the gravity of the task, citing threats to economic prosperity, fiscal stability and public health.
He said the committee was determined to uncover the roots of sabotage and make recommendations to promote global best practices, attract investment and protect national interests.
He said, “We take this task seriously with the aim of addressing the fundamental issues that pose serious threats to our economic prosperity, fiscal stability and public health as a federation.

“In line with our mandate, we will surely get to the bottom of the economic sabotage in the Nigerian petroleum industry and make necessary recommendations that will strengthen global best practices in the industry and open it up to more investments, especially in the downstream and midstream sectors.
“We are fully committed to this mandate. We will also carry out this national duty without fear or favour.”
Bamidele assured that the committee would conduct its investigations without fear or favour, ensuring justice and fairness to all parties involved.
He added, “We must be fair and honest to all parties with the aim of advancing and protecting strategic national interests in our homeland.”
The move marks a significant step towards addressing the long-term challenges plaguing Nigeria’s oil industry and holding accountable those responsible for the toxic fuel scandal.
