A devastating fire has hit the Karu market in the Federal Capital Territory, leaving a trail of destruction and loss

Traders count losses as fire destroys Abuja market

Goods and properties worth millions of naira were reduced to ashes in the market located in Karu suburb of the Federal Capital Territory. Traders, who lost their goods in the inferno, could be seen wailing uncontrollably over their losses.

“Everything is burned. I couldn’t salvage anything. This is where we feed ourselves. Oh, my children’s school fees are there,”

one of the traders shouted: “I can’t help myself, I’m in pain. I don’t know if the government can help us.

My money that ended up here is more than ₦10 million. I’m tired and I don’t know where to start,” she shouted

Despite the difficulties, soldiers were on the ground to maintain order and ensure the safety of all those involved. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical surge, which spread quickly and engulfed parts of the market.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances of the outbreak.
