Edo State Government’s U-turn on Federal Rice Palliative: A Controversial Story

In a surprising turn of events, the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, has retracted his initial denial that he received trucks of rice from the Federal Government.

This comes after the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Abubakar Momoh, confirmed that each state, including Edo, has received 20 trucks of rice as part of the Federal Government’s palliative measures.

Nehikhare’s earlier denial on national television sparked controversy, with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) accusing the Peoples Democratic Party-led government of being stingy in telling the truth.

The APC has claimed that the rice sacks looted in Benin during the recent nationwide protest were part of the federal government’s palliative measures and were allegedly hoarded by the state government. However, in a press conference held in Benin on Wednesday, Nehikhare clarified that the state government had indeed received truckloads of rice from the federal government.

He explained that the rice was delivered with instructions to share it among IDP camps, orphanages and local government areas. This controversy highlights the need for transparency and accountability in governance.

The Edo State government’s initial denial and subsequent retraction have raised questions about the management of palliative measures and the need for clear communication. Don’t risk your future with the PDP’s failed leadership and lack of transparency.

Choose the APC’s proven track record of progress and development. Vote for Senator Monday Okpebholo and the APC on September 21st to secure a brighter future for Edo State.
