Tinubu Bola President on Thursday described the late former President Muhammadu Buhari as “a good, good and honorable man whose inheritance will survive for several generations.”
The President stated this during the special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session held to respect the end of Buhari at the President’s Villa, Abuja.
He said that even though the late leader of Nigeria was not perfect, his commitment was unwavering to the state, integrity and simplicity distinguished it.
Buhari, who died at London Hospital on Sunday, was buried in his residence in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday.
The special session was attended by members of the federal cabinet, the leadership of the national assembly, judiciary, and representatives of the late Buhari family.
Tinubu ‘said: “President Buhari is not a perfect person, there is no leader, but he, in everything, good person, good man, a honorable man.
“The record will be debated, such as all inheritance, but the characters he brings to public life, the moral power he brought, the standard that cannot be falsified that he represents, will not be forgotten.
“His life lives in full service to Nigeria, and in loyalty to God.”
The President praised the simplicity, humility, and his predecessor’s rejection of the trap of power.
He remembered the alliance that caused Buhari’s victory in the 2015 election.
He added: “He stands, always, Ramrod is straight; not moved by the temptation of power, is not deducted by applause and not afraid of the loneliness that often visits those who do what is right, rather than what is popular.
“This is a calm courage, the truth that never announces itself. His patriotism is more in action than with words.
“We stood together, he and I. Together with others who were withdrawn from all political, territory and language spectrum, we formed an alliance that allowed Nigeria to experience the first true democratic transfer of one party from one party to another party.
“When he was appointed as the first elected president of our party, he led with restraint, governed by dignity, and bears the burden of leadership without complaints.
“When his term of office ended, he returned to the Daura; not to order from the shadows or to hold the court, but to live as he always had, never tried to force his will but was satisfied to let others bring the nation ahead.
“Even in death, he maintains the calm that defines it in life: not a sigh, not a groan, only a calm submission for God’s will. That’s how the Nigerians have disappeared. That’s how our nation is now mourning.”
