ABA Power law act riot to electric vandals, looking for the collaboration of the community – Thage

The management of power ABA has declared a renewed and uncompromising commitment to face the growing threat of the vandalism of electrical infrastructures through its network.

Speaking during a strategic briefing with journalists and technical staff of ABA, CEO of ABA Power, Barr. Ugochukwu Opiegbe, denounced the growing wave of vandalism, in particular aims at the ongoing project sites.

He described the acts not only criminals but deeply harmful to the economic and social life in the affected communities.

“We are putting together a new strategy to fight vandalism in our network,” said Opiegbe.

“This new approach is largely focused on public buy-in.”

As part of the new measures, ABA Power has created a dedicated report line and has distributed a quick response team to quickly face vandalism. These teams have observed the company, they will be strategically positioned to guarantee rapid interventions.

A few days after the announcement, the company recorded a turning point as a suspicious vandal was arrested in Ao Ngwa in the area of the local government of Ososioma Ngwa (LGA).

Chizurum Emmanuel, a native of 28 years of Aro Ngwa, was captured in the act on July 23, 2025, by the community supervision group while trying to vandalize a 300kva transformer. He was delivered to the Ososioma Police Division and is currently helping investigations.

The arrest is the result of a collaboration in progress between geometric security services (GSS) and Vigilant host community.

The head Alfonsus Udeigbo, general president of the ABA Landlords Development and Protection Association (Apalda), who is also the president of Abia State Amalgamates Association, denounced attacks on the basic public structures, defining the authors “the most senseless criminals that prevent the progress of our people”.

Speaking on development, Engr. Agege Ukaegbu, previously of the Federal Airports Authority (Faan), praised the arrest and asked for a stronger punitive action.

“Anyone who intertwines with the public electricity infrastructure should face the entire weight of the law”, Engr. He said Agege.

“We must treat vandalism as an economic sabotage. The communities must remain vigilant and uncompromising in the defense of their electrical supply.”

Also talking to briefing, Engr. Simeon Akpata, head of technical services at the ABA Power, has praised the communities that have proactively protected infrastructures in their areas.

He stressed that there is a clear link between the supervision of the community and improve the provision of services.

The head of geometric security services (GSS), Kenneth Agu, has ensured to the interested parties that its team is completely mobilized with trained staff and advanced surveillance tools to monitor and respond to threats throughout the network.

In a direct call to action, Aba Power urged the residents and communities to climb in defense not only of electrical infrastructures but their well -being.

“This goes beyond the simple protection of a transformer,” read the declaration.

“Each act of sabotage affects life, businesses and education. We ask all residents to unite the ABA Power to protect our network and protect our future.”

The leadership message is clear: a lasting success in the fight against vandalism requires a united front, between society, safety agencies and communities that depend most on electricity.
