Abbas stated that PDP was more prominent, a member of the Labor Party on his way to APC

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, stated that on Saturday the more prominent opposition figures were on the way to the Congress of All Progressive (APC).

The speaker, according to a statement issued by the advisor, especially about the media, Musa Krishi, stated that this was at a meeting of Zonal North-West APC stakeholders held in Kaduna.

He said the recent defector of high profile opposition figures against APC was an indication that was increasing the trust posed by Nigeria in the ruling party.

The Governor of the State of Delta, Sheriff Oborevwori, its predecessor, Senator Ifeanya Okowa, and the entire Democratic Party structure (PDP) in the state switched to APC last month.

Senator and members of the House of Representatives from PDP, Labor Party and the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) also joined APC in recent weeks.

Abbas said: ‘Since the 2023 general election, APC has secured the governor’s ship in 19 states and maintained the biggest presence in the two national assembly rooms.

“This momentum has been further supported by new defeats from members of the Federal Parliament from Kano, Osun, Kebbi, Delta, and Edo stated, so that the number of buyers in the DPR is 25.

“In addition, we celebrate the APC victory in the Edo 2024 State Governor Election, where Monday Okpebholo won a decisive victory for our party.

“Since the last national work committee meeting, our internal reforms have deepened democracy in the party, improving the candidate selection process, and strengthening the grassroots structure.

“With this improvement, we have made a regional significant step through targeted policy dialogue and development partnerships, revitalizing our presence in Zamfara and Sokoto. Simultaneously, our achievements in the south-south have been strengthened by strategic arrangement validated in elections in rivers and Bayelsa.

“It is very important to recognize that northwest, as a zone with the largest election block, boast of more than 22 million registered voters according to data from the Independent National Election Commission 2023, not only peripheral actors but the decisive forces in the formation of the election results.

“However, when recognizing our substantial voter base, it is very important to understand that the numbers will not ensure victory. Discipline and unity hold the key. Past selection has exposed the division that we cannot allow to reappear; now is the time for collaboration and sharing aspirations.
