The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Chairperson of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas to “immediately refer the accusations paid by members of parliament to parliament members.
Absorbing urged Mr. Akpabio and Mr. Abbas “to mention anyone who might be involved in the alleged bribery and to ensure the recovery of bribery.”
Absorbing also urged Mr. Akpabio and Mr. Abbas “to ensure the protection of whistleblower Ibrahim Auto, a member of the House of Representatives (APC, Jigawa), who made the accusation of ‘bribery for bills, motion and petitions’.”
Ibrahim Auro, recently accused in a viral video recorded in Hausa that members of the National Assembly paid between ₦ 1 million and ₦ 3 million each to present bills, motions and petitions at the National Assembly.
In an open letter dated August 16, 2025 and signed by the Deputy Director of Collawole Oluwadare, the organization said: “The accusation that members of parliament pay bribes to present motion, bills, and proposals in the National Assembly are serious violations of public trust and constitutional oaths from the law office.”

Shell said, “MPs do not need to have to pay bribes to present motions and bills in the National Assembly. Breaks should never have an influence in the implementation of the legislative tasks or run the National Assembly. The Quid Pro Quo accusation for the making of this law has damaged the rights of Nigerian democracy.”
According to absorption, “The accusation that members of parliament pay up to N3 million as a bribe in rewards presenting a motion and bill make a mockery of making laws and legislative forces based on part 4 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution [as amended]. “
Open letter, read the section: “We will be grateful if the recommended steps are taken within 7 days of receipt and/or publication of this letter. If we have not heard of news from you at that time, absorbing will consider appropriate legal actions to force you and the national assembly to fulfill our requests for the public interest.
“This accusation has revealed how parliamentary members misused their positions entrusted to deny the Nigerians from their democratic rights.
“Referring to the accusations of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and independent corruption practices and other related violation commissions (ICPC) for investigation and prosecution will increase public confidence in the leadership capabilities of the national assembly to ensure accountability in the implementation of constitutional and legislative functions of parliament members.”
