Acquisition call: repetitions Sumon Benue, Zamfara Govs, state assemblies

The Committee for the public petitions of the House of Representatives convened the governors of the States of Benue and Zamfara, Rev. P. Hyacinth alia and Dauda Lawal dare respectively, to appear in front of it on Thursday 8 May 2025, to explain the petitions that ask for the acquisition of the functions of the respective state parliaments.

It is expected that alongside the governors are the leadership of the houses of the Shareholders’ Meeting of the States Benue and Zamfara.

The notices of convocation were contained in the letters signed by the president of the Committee, Mike Etaba, and made available to journalists on Friday.

A declaration of the head of relations with the media of the Committee, Chooks Oko, indicated that “this is a sequel to a petition written by an organization for civil rights, guardians of democracy and the rule of law, exhorting the chamber to take control of the functions of the two houses of the assembly”.

Although there have been no details on the issues relating to the object of the petitions, Etaba was mentioned as noting that “the invited parties are already aware of the facts of the case”.

The declaration reads further: “Ours is to ensure that the rule of law is always supported. The parties have a wonderful opportunity to clearly declare their cases so that the Nigerians can know what is happening. Anarchy will never be given space in our policy”.
