ADC accused FG wrong information of Japanese visas specifically for Nigerian claims

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has blamed the federal government for announcing the creation of a “special visa category” for Nigerians by Japan, a claim which was then rejected by Japanese authority.

In a statement posted on X (previously Twitter) on Tuesday, the Secretary of the ADC National Publicity, Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the administration of all progressive (APC) which was adjusted by deliberately misleading the Nigerians for political benefits.

“At #Ticad9, the APC government claims that Japanese authorities have agreed to issue a ‘special visa category’ to Nigerians. This Japanese rejection shows that the Tinubu government is so desperate for positive headlines that it will not mind spreading #Fakenews,” Abdullahi wrote.

He described the situation as a national shame that was able to erode further public trust in official communication. “True is, with this government, we don’t know what else to believe. This shame must only stop,” he added.

His comments followed clarification by the Japanese Foreign Ministry, which explained that the new “JICA Africa Hometown” program was launched not involving the privilege of immigration or special visas.

According to the Japanese government, this initiative, which was launched at the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), was intended to foster cultural exchange and development between certain African countries and four designated Japanese cities.

“JICA plans to promote exchange through various activities, including events involving JICA cooperation volunteers abroad. However, there are no plans to issue special visas or encourage immigration from African countries,” the statement said.

Previous reports circulated that the Federal Government, through a statement signed by the Director of Information of the State DPR, Abiodun Oladunjoye, claimed that the City of Kisarazu in Japan had been designated as a “hometown” for Nigeria and would offer a special visa opportunity for youth and very skilled craftsmen.
