Daniel Adeleye and Abubakar Yusuf emerged as champions in the male doubles event in the National Tennis championship of the ongoing Vemp Open, defeating the duo of Canice Abua and Musa Mohammed in a pulsating final held on Friday at the National Tennis Center, package B of the Moshers Abola National Stadium, Aboja.
The closely played game ended 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 in favor of Adelye and Yusuf, who showed exceptional team work and mental hardness for the edge of their opponents decided in a super decisive super.

Adeleye and Yusuf began strongly, taking the first 6-3 set. However, Abua and Mohammed defended bravely to win the second 6-4 set, pushing the contest to a decisive tiebreaker of matches, which the possible champions claimed by little 10-8.

Adeleye reflects on victory
Speaking after the game, a euphoric adeeye of the state of Ekiti dedicated victory to teamwork and perseverance.
“I congratulate me and my partner for this strong performance. We executed our game plan perfectly. I could not even train before coming due to a disease, so this victory means a lot. Now, I will focus on the final of the singles tomorrow and we hope to raise another trophy.”
The National Tennis Championship of the Vemp Open, organized by the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) and sponsored by its president, IFEDAYO Akindoju, began on July 4 and is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, July 12.
With 192 players competing in categories of singles and doubles of men and women, the tournament continues to serve as a vital platform to discover and develop Nigeria’s tennis talents.
