Afenifere demands probe into killings, calls for foreign intervention during protests

The Pan Yoruba Socio-Political Group, Afenifere, has called on the Federal Government to launch a comprehensive investigation into the killings, alleged foreign interests and calls for military intervention during the recent nationwide protests.

In a communique issued on Thursday after the Expanded National Executive Committee Meeting, signed by the National Leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, and the National Publicity Secretary, Prince Justice Faloye, the group demanded justice for the victims of the protests.

Afenifere urges the Federal Government to:

– Investigate deliberate human rights violations, particularly the circumstances surrounding the killings, and hold security agents accountable.

– Investigate alleged foreign interests and threats to Nigeria’s sovereignty, and punish those found guilty.

– Protect non-indigenous populations and deal decisively with those who threaten their safety.

The group stressed the right of every Nigerian citizen to reside in any part of the country, stressing that the majority of Nigerian citizens reside in every state or geopolitical zone, regardless of their ethnic identity.

The group called, “The Federal Government must investigate the deliberate human rights violations, particularly the circumstances of the killing of those killed in the protests, and bring to justice those, including Security agents, found guilty in this regard.

“The Federal Government must not be lenient but must investigate the alleged involvement of foreign interests as a threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty and a treasonable call for military intervention in the political affairs of the country, the evidence of which must invite the full wrath of the law.”

Afenifere’s demands come amid growing concerns about the government’s handling of the protests and the need for accountability and justice.
