Temitope Ajayi, a senior special assistant for the Tinubu Ball President on the media and publicity, accused the former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, who made unsafe and fostering divisions for eight years.
Ajayi made a comment on a Facebook post on Wednesday while attending a civil engagement at Kaduna organized by the Memorial Foundation Sir Ahmadu Bello.
According to Ajayi, the current government led by the Governor of Uba Sani has made a significant step in restoring peace and rebuilding trust in the country he described has been left polarized and unstable under El-Rufai’s leadership.
“The most important achievement of the Governor of Uba Sani in the last two years is how he can build an elite consensus to restore peace and security in the state of Kaduna,” Ajayi wrote. “Governor Sani has been the most successful in managing the diversity of the state by mapping different paths from the inheritance that fought from its predecessor who polarized the state and creating the same insecurity for the eight years he was holding.”
While acknowledging El-Rufai’s achievements in the field of physical infrastructure, Ajayi believes that the efforts are overshadowed by what he described as a legacy of conflict and fear.
“While the achievements of Nasir El-Rufai in the field of physical infrastructure are undeniable, the Governor of Uba also built it and expanded it further,” he said. “However, the advantages of infrastructure are very damaged by an atmosphere of distrust, insecurity, and political divisions that are characteristic of previous administration.”
Comments from the President’s aide are one of the most direct criticisms of El-Rufai from within the Tinubu government and underline the ongoing tension in the decision of all the Progressive Congress (APC) regarding the political heritage of the former Kaduna Governor.
The Governor of Uba Sani, who replaced El-Rufai in 2023, had repeatedly emphasized the commitment of his government to the inclusive government and the pursuit of peace, especially in South Kaduna, an area that witnessed the intense ethno-religious conflict during the previous government.
