Following the ongoing strike by the workers of the Nigerian meteorological agency, Nimet, the main airline of Nigeria, Air Peace, announced the immediate suspension of all its flight operations across the country.
Air Peace on Wednesday said that the decision was made in the interest of passenger safety, since Nimet’s weather updates, in particular the current dangerous time hour, CNH, reports, are essential for safe flight landings during the rainy season.
The declaration stated: “We are sorry to inform you that due to the ongoing strike by the Nigerian meteorological agency (Nimet), Air Peace is suspending all flight operations at national level with immediate effect.
“This decision is necessary because Nimet is the agency responsible for the issue of CNH reports (current time of time dangerous), which are fundamental for safe landings, especially during this season of strong rains and thunderstorms. Without these reports from the control tower, flight safety cannot be guaranteed.
“As airline for the first security, we chose to act responsibly by suspending operations until Nimet resumes full service.
“We understand that this can cause inconveniences and apologize sincerely. Passengers will be contacted with updates and options for reprogramming.”
