Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and Federation Government Secretary, Senator George Akume, have requested Nigeria to make patience with the administration of the Tinubu Bola President.
They also assured that the ongoing economic and political reform would eventually be translated into national prosperity.
This duo made a statement in a statement released on Sunday by the Special Assistant of the Senate President in the media and communication, Anietie Ekong.
The appeal came at the time of increasing public dissatisfaction, with trade unions, civil society groups, and opposition figures blaming government policy choices, which according to them had deepened poverty. Because President Tinubu stated the removal of fuel subsidies on May 29, 2023, the price of gasoline was more than tripled, food inflation had jumped beyond 35 percent, and Naira continued to depreciate sharply against the dollar.
Speaking at the second plenary meeting from the Nigerian Catholic Bishop conference at Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom’s state, Akpabio acknowledged the difficulty but equalized the current phase with a tiring process in building cathedrals, which, he said, needed sacrifice, patience, and resilience.

“Let me take this opportunity to urge my colleagues to be patient with the government when we put the foundation of this house again. Don’t give up when the wind blows hard or the shaking scaffolding,” said Akpabio.
“Because a nation like a mighty cathedral, it is not lifted overnight, but stone after stone, prayer with hands. Therefore, let us renew hope in Nigeria’s efforts. Let us believe again that our land can be great, that our children can inherit a brighter future than today,” he added.
The Senate President then asked citizens to avoid despair and work collectively across the divisions of faith, politics, and institutions to foster national reform.
Also greeting the meeting on behalf of President Tinubu, SGF, Senator Akume, assured that the government was committed to stabilizing the economy, attracting foreign and local investment, and handling the impact of reform.
“This government began to serve with a strong commitment to renew hopes, strengthen our democratic institutions, and build Nigeria who work for all,” Akume said. “We have taken the courage to stabilize the economy, attract investment, and implement reforms that will bring eternal benefits to our country.”
He urged the Catholic Church and other religious -based organizations to continue to support the government’s efforts, promising that the social investment program will ensure that no Nigerians are left behind.
