The Minister of Development of Solid Minerals, Dr. Dele Alake, underlined that a harmonious relationship between state governments and mining operators is crucial not only to attract investments but also to advance the nation’s mining sector.
During a mediation parley with the Governor of the State of Osun, Ademola Adeleke and representatives of Segilola Resources operating Limited (SROL) spoke in his office in Abuja.

The minister then urged a friendly resolution of the dispute between the state government of Osun and Srol, highlighting that the state will benefit from an environment that promotes industrial harmony and relieves the climate of business. These conditions, he said, would lead to an increase in revenues and attract direct foreign investments (ide).
At the height of the dispute, which led to the closure of Srol operations by the state government, Alake established a committee of great power led by Imam Engin Ganiyu, director of the Inspectorate of the Ministry’s mines and since then the Committee has presented its results. Therefore, the minister convened this meeting based on the report of the Committee to mediate, reach the resolution and closed the conflict.
Governor Adeleke welcomed the intervention of the minister, expressing the state’s commitment to improve the ease of doing business while guaranteeing that the ethical standards were supported. He also reiterated the readiness of the state government to reach a compromise with the company to guarantee fluid extraction operations in Osun.
Prof. Lukman Jimoda, special consultant of the Governor for mining and mineral resources, has outlined the key issues in the heart of the dispute, including the tax requests contested in particular as you earn, (Paye), the participation of the state in society, environmental concerns and the wider economic interests Osun should earn by Segilola’s operations.
